Gurudongma philosophy is dedicated to providing professional guiding, top rate logistics, and absolute reliability. We focus on looking for the best birding guides in India, orienting them to new birding areas, training local guides, creating “core” teams in remote areas, and on discovering new birding areas, for the birding enjoyments of our guests.

Gurudongma has organized tours for International birding groups to the remotest parts of India and Bhutan Our explorations and guiding trips have taken us to Ladakh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim and North Bengal.

To create Gurudongma birding tours we banked on over 15 years of experience in operating Nature, cultural and tribal tours and treks to the remoter regions of India. It took us over five years of exploring hot spots all over India and Bhutan, and net- working with like- minded birders, to be able to provide a total birding experience. Gurudongma its associates and operator partners are in a position to offer carefully crafted, interesting birding holidays to most parts of India.

Some recent Feed back from our clients is given below:-

Eagles Nest, Nameri NP & Bailey trail trek Feb 2008

In April 2008 we visited Assam and Arunachal Pradesh in North-eastern India. Our primary goal was bird watching but we also looked for a cultural experience.

We, six persons from Sweden, employed the services of Gurudongma Tours & Treks. All the arrangements were excellent. From the night we arrived in Dehli and all 3Ż weeks we stayed in India were very well looked after.

In Assam we visited Nameri National Park. In Arunachal Pradesh the Eagle┤s Nest Reserve. We also birded in the Dirang area. In Tawang the several Buddhist monasteries were visited as well as a traditional Monpa village.

The (Bailey trail) trek we had planned had to be cancelled at the last minute because of too much snow and ice on the high passes. It would be impossible for the horses and also for us to pass. We were very impressed how quickly new horses and horsemen were employed in another village for our 10-day trek. From that village we made another trek at a lower altitude. The forests are intact at the middle level of the Himalayas in this part.

Our bird guide made a very good job and he helped us to find a lot of the good birds. As the leader of our trip he spared no effort to make us to feel comfortable. We had incredible good food during the whole trip. Often it was made during very primitive conditions.

We can really recommend the services of Gurudongma Tours & Treks.

South India Jan 2009

Our South India trip turned out to be one of my best birding trip ever (the exceptions are from NE India 2005, 2006 and 2007). Mr Eldhose was excellent, as well as a birding guide as his nice personality. He is really easy-going guy and had very good ears to my suggestions. His birding skills is well-known but it was a good experience to travel with him and to see him pick up all the target species, one by one. His knowledge about where to find all important species was extra ordinary. I will be most glad to travel with him again.

The driver during the trip was my best driver ever. A happy and relaxed guy that made us all feeling comfortable in the Indian traffic.

Regarding our accomodation they were all very good.

Upon the fact that we saw all but one available endemic bird species (we missed the Wyynad Laughingthrush. We were just unlucky.), we managed to hear two male Tiger with their ruttish call and saw one wonderful female outside Bandipur National Park. The female Tiger was found by us because of a alarming Sambar Deer. One night in Mudumalai area also gave us good views of Sloth Bear.

All in all we recorded 290 Bird species and 20 species of Mammals. We even managed to see the difficult-to-see-species Indian (Malabar) Flying Squirrel and 2 Dhole!

Corbett, Bandavgarh- Bharatpur & Little Rann: Feb 2009

I wanted to thank you for arranging our recent trip to India. It was truly a wonderful experience. We ended the trip seeing 296 species of birds as well as taking in many of your most important national monuments in Northern India. My colleagues all agreed our trip was a huge success and discussion has already begun for a trip back there.

Our birding guide was a very knowledgeable birder, extremely helpful with all aspects of the tour, and a truly nice person. He made the trip a success.

Our driver, was the best! We all felt very safe with his driving skill and he became an integral part of our group.

Thanks again for the great trip.

Harike, Desert National Park and Gujarat: Nov 2008

Overall it was a very good trip, the organisation was excellent with no problems,

Shaym is a really good guide who knows his birds very well & where to find them also really pleasant company. He went to a great deal of trouble over our food.

Arpit was a great person for us to be with, as not only is he an excellent birder, knowing exactly where to find some difficult species, he is also a first class bird photographer, we really enjoyed our time with him & wished we could have had him around Jamnagar.

Danraj is a unique character he certainly is very knowledgeable. We really had such a good time at Camp Zainibad.

Lastly Rag Patel has excellent knowledge of Sason Gir & it was due to this that we had really good views of 2 Lions & 2 lionesses & a magnificent leopard. He was also good at Velavadar. Unfortunately he is not good at bird identification, so it was a little bit frustrating at times. He is an extremely nice guy & looked after us well.

We saw some amazing sights , the Golden temple, Jailsamer fort, the cranes The Harrier roost, the Grey hippocolis ( which arrived just 2 days before us) & the sheer number. of birds as well as lion & leopard.

You oeganised the trip very well. Thank you, we are sorry we could not meet up with you.

Corbett, Bandavgarh, Bharatpur, And North Bengal: Jan 2008

It is hard to pick a single highlight of this tour. Was it the three tiger cubs peering through the bamboo at Bandhavgarh National Park, or the endangered Slender-billed Scimitar-Babbler playing hide-and-seek in shrubbery near Lava? Or perhaps the stunning views of Nanda Devi, Kanchenjunga and other giant mountains in the Himalayas? How about the Sarus Cranes bugling and striding through an agricultural field near Bharatpur? For some it may have been the stunning Taj Mahal or the ruins of Fatehpur Sikri, or the fabulous food, or the throngs of little kids crowding around the cameras to see their image on the screen. Simply put, each and every day provided memorable moments.

Yes, it was colder than expected, and the threat of political unrest slightly altered our plans for the final two days, and the smog and pollution situation is not improving, but none of that could dampen our spirits or spoil the tour.

The group’s total bird species list was 421, and the mammal list was also impressive………………………..

All-in-all a fabulous trip, with good company, excellent birding, great food, some stunning scenery, friendly people, and knowledgeable and helpful local guides, drivers and helpers.

The colder-than-expected weather may have depressed the overall bird-list somewhat, but I am not complaining (I added over 50 species to my lifelist!)

Thank you all!

North Bengal Jan 2007

First of all our thanks for arranging a wonderful trip. It is very comforting to be in the hands of such a professional organisation as Gurudongma. Even when we arrived in Calcutta there was a company representative to meet us and direct us to the domestic terminal which was only a few hundred metres away!

We were very comfortable at Guradongma House and really appreciated the excellent service we received. We had marvellous birding at Lava and really enjoyed our mountain hike in the park.

Samthar was one of the highlights of the holiday the birds, surrounding area, accommodation, food and service were all wonderfull. We particularly enjoyed the hospitality you provided. We would like to return some day

Overall our trip to West Bengal and Sikkim was a great success. Many thanks
for giving us such an enjoyable experience

NE India 2006

Thank you so much for your excellent service during my visit with the AviFauna group in January.

It was very nice to meet you all and the response from my group was more than positive.

Our days in Eagle┤s Nest and Pakke are filled with memories and I really hope I can return soon to this lovely areas.

Although we didn┤t visit Namdapha we managed to see ten species more compared with Jan 2005. The bird list ended up with more than 360 species.

Great Himalayan National Park: 2007

Christa and I had a very enjoyable trip through GHNP and of course we were elated to find the Western Tragopan. The service we received exceeded our expectations. Here are my impressions of the different aspects of the trip.

1. Logistics. This area of the trip went very smoothly. Our pick up was on time (very appreciated.) and the days of the trek were very well-thought out,

2. Birding. The birding was excellent, we saw many very exciting species.

3. Campsites. The campsites are beautiful and I would love to see them stay that way.

4. Food. The food was good during the trip.
