Roopangarh & Kishangarh
Roopangarh Fort Hotel
The Roopangarh Fort and PhoolMahal are two
heritage properties owned by the Kishangarh royal family. Being close to
each other, both are suitable for birders planning to visit
Sambhar Salt Lake and
surroundings – just 20 Kms away.
Built in 1653, it is
situated on a mound, and guarded by nine turreted fortifications, Roopangarh,
has been extensively renovated by the current head of the family, and
furnished with an air of elegance.
This heritage hotel offers 15 double rooms, 4 single rooms and a Queen's
suite, each with large terraces and all modern amenities. The 'Queen's Suite
still recalls, faint echoes of the softer footfall, the whisper of silk, of
romance and intrigue of the Zenana (women’s quarters).
The Queen and female entourage once used the grand audience or Durbar Hall,
with its latticed screens on the upper part to view the proceedings below.
This has been converted into the atmospheric dining room. Traditional folk
dances, music and cultural shows are staged on occasions.
The hotel provides a libarary, Tennis, Croquet and Indoor games.
Phool Mahal Palace, Kishangarh
Kishangarh
is world famous for its early 18th century school of Miniature Paintings.
Even now, several thousand artists paint on various surfaces in this style
and can be viewed. Kishangarh also is the largest centre for marble and
granite cutting and polishing in India. The charming “old” Kishangarh is
tucked behind the Kishangarh fort. Walking down the winding streets of the
old town is a rare expereince.
Constructed in 1872, the Phool Mahal Palace was built on
a garden, with the backdrop of the majestic Fort of Kishangarh. In front is
the centuries old Gundalao lake “ where herons fly and peacocks strut in
fanned delight. Kites circle overhead and the lake water beneath the
graceful Palace, is a paradise to flamingoes - pelicans - wild duck and the
sarus crane.”
The palace was built in true Rajput style, with successive kings making
additions to the structure without caring for symmetry and order. As a
result, the 14 rooms in the hotel all have different shapes and sizes. This
has given each room a
character of its own, which sets it apart from
conventional hotels. Now restored and converted into a hotel, air
conditioned bedrooms with all modern amenities & comforts face the lake or
the imposing Kishangarh Fort. Old paintings adorn the walls. Colonial
furniture, wide verandahs, private terraces are therte to enjoy the bird
song in the mornings.
There is a spacious lounge, and a comfortable dining space furnished with
marble-topped tables, providing multi cuisine dining. There is 24 hours Room
Service,Cable T.V, Library; Laundry; Internet; ISD/STD Phone; Croquet;
Jogging Track; Cycling; Yoga; Herbal Massages; and Rajasthani Music & Dance.
