Jaipur – the pink city, is a
treasure of delights. The city of history & culture, forts, palaces, golden
sands and warm people. Built in 1727 by Sawai Jai Singh II, who abandoned
the rugged fortress of Amber to lay out a perfect palace – city, Jaipur
today epitomises the spirit of Rajputana - a fusion of history and
modernity. It has everything that is associated with the exotic East –
Massive forts, magnificent palaces, temples, elephants, vibrant people in
colourful garments, diamonds, and exquisite handicrafts.
We will take a sightseeing tour of Jaipur. Evening free for
a shopping spree. Overnight at your hotel.
Day 08:
Jaipur- Rewasa wetland – Thal Chappar sanctuary - Bikaner
A day long birding trip for 380 km. Drive from Jaipur (1.5 hrs) to Rewasa
wet land., looking for Pelicans, Waders, and Ducks. Continue to Tal Chhapar
Sanctuary ( 02 hrs) for Raptors, Demoiselle Cranes, and Larks, besides a
thousand Black Bucks. Finally drive to Bikaner (3 hrs), through the Thar
desert - It is a faboulous experience driving through the panorama of
shifting sand dunes. Overnight at your hotel.
Day 09:
Bikaner- Phalodi-Kicham.
The princely state of Bikaner was founded in 1488 AD and is located in the
northern reaches of the Thar Desert. It lies on the Ancient Caravan route to
Central Asia. The town retains its medieval splendor with magnificent
palaces and impregnable forts.
In the morning we will take time off for some sightseeing. Thereafter begin
birding with a 30 minutes drive to observe a huge colony of
Vultures (4-5 species). Continue to Phalodi ( 02 hrs) and check in
at hotel. Afternoon an excursion to Lohawat- a shrine of the
Bishnoi community, to see a herd of more than hundred Indian Gazelles
grazing peacefully in the wild. Return to Phalodi and visit the enclosure in
Khichan village to see one of the most unusual avian sights in Asia. Several
years ago this small village established a feeding station for wintering
Demoiselle Cranes and now, every morning and afternoon, thousands of these
graceful birds crowd in to a fenced-off area to take the grain put out for

Day 10:
Phalodi-Jaisalmer
Early morning option to visit the Demoiselle
Crane site again (photography at sun rise), which is just 04 km from the
hotel. After breakfast drive165 km to Jaisalmer in 04 hrs, through the
desert country. Enroute stop for viewing raptors perched on electric poles
and on top of Khejri (P. cineraria) trees.
The Fort city of
Jaisalmer was founded in 1156
A.D. Perched atop the Trikuta Hill, the Fort glitters in the sunlight, like
a mirage. It has been dubbed “The golden City” because of the honey colour
imparted to its sandstone ramparts by the setting sun. The vision of Jaisalmere ‘s massive fort thrusting heavenwards out of the barren
desertscape is unforgetable and breathtaking. The magic of this view will
linger in your imagination for a lifetime. As you approach closer you will
marvel at its massive bastions walls and labyrinthine streets and bazaars.

Day 11:
Jaisalmer – Desert National Park – Jaisalmer
Today is a day dedicated to the desert birds. Drive through sandy terrain
and grassland habitat to look for the Indian Bustard, Houbara, Sandgrouse,
Courser(s), Larks, Pippits, Chats, raptors among other species. Return for
overnight to our hotel at Jaisalmer
Day 12: Jaisalmer
A second day in the Desert National Park, looking for species we may have
missed out. In the afternoon wander the streets of this unusual fort-city,
meet people and take in the ambiance. Overnight at your hotel
Day 13:
Jaisalmer – Jodhpur
Drive 05 hrs to Jodhpur,
Located on the fringe of the Thar Desert. Check in at your hotel.
Jodhpur was founded in 1459 A.D
and became the capital of erstwhile Marwar State. Located on a vital trade
route it flourished on profits from opium, sandal wood, dates and copper. It
is famous for its massive fort, which towers over the city , perched on a
sheer rocky ridge with breathtaking views. The fascinating walled, old city
is a tangle of winding glittering streets “scented by incense, roses and
severs”, with shops selling anything from trumpets to temple decorations,
from snuff to sarees. We will visit the 15th century majestic Mehrangarh
Fort. It has an interesting museum and decorated palace apartments besides a
lot more. The panoramic view of the old city is spectacular. Latter visit
the immense Umed Bhawan Palace museum. In the evening explore the old walled
city
Day 14: Jodhpur – Kumbalgarh
Drive
03.30 hrs to Kumbalgarh Fort -
the massive 15th century fort is perched at 1100
meters up on the Aravali Range.
As an example of exclusive masonry, it is billed
as being second only to the Great Wall of China. The massive 20-ft thick
outer wall snakes over 36 km, and is pierced by seven gates. It encloses
many palaces, temples and gardens.
Check in at your hotel. Latter explore the upper portion of
Kumbhalgarh Sanctuary's dry deciduous forest by birding around Kumbhalgarh
Fort, at its foot, and the fringe of the forest. After sun set walk around
the forest periphery looking for Nighhtjar, Owlet etc. Overnight at the
hotel.
Day 15:
Kumbalgarh - Udhaipur
Half days birding drive through the
Kumbalgarh Wild Life Sanctuary,
characterized by dry deciduous habitat dominated by the Aravalli
rocky formations, cliffs and valleys.
Continue to Udhaipur (03 hrs) and check in at hotel
Day 16: Udhaipur
Udhaipur is one of the most romantic cities of India, abounding in tales of
bravery, romance and sacrifice, it is the home to the Mewar princely family
of
Rajasthan It was founded in 1559 A.D after the Moguls sacked the erstwhile
capital. Its rulers built this beautiful city with a chain of fortifications
around it and defied the Mogul Empire. At Udhaipur “misty ochre shadowed
hills and pale intricate buildings encircle the mirror glass of Lake Pichola.
At the lakes centre is the mystical Lake Palace”. The city is full of
palaces, temples and mansions. It is also a proud center of the performing
arts, painting and crafts. In the morning take a sightseeing tour visiting
the Lake Palace, City Palace, Sahelion ki Bari, (Garden of the maids),
Bhartiya Lok Kala Museum – a foundation for preservation of local folk arts.
It includes dolls, masks, tribal jewellery, musical instruments. Paintings
and puppets, Shilpgram – a craft village, the Lalit Kala Akademi ( Academy
of Arts). Afternoon: Birding walk in dry forest habitat on the shores of
Lake Pichola. Overnight at your hotel.
Day 17:
Udhaipur
– Roopangarh
Drive to Roopangarh, 285 Kms in 05 hrs. Check in at the 17 the Century
Castle-Palace.
Originally a nine turreted fort, it has been built over and Added
on by several generations. Today, sensitively restored by the present
Maharaja, the castle retains the sense of antiquity so delicately portrayed
in the famous Kishangarh miniature paintings. Explore the fortress, and walk
the the bylanes of the village to see the traditional activity of this small
rural community, with its weaver, cobbler, potters and a variety of
tradesman carrying on their work making the people self sufficient in their
daily needs. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 18: Roopangarh –
Sambhar Salt Lake – Jaipur
Full day birding trip to Sambhar Salt lake. Includes Phulera Lake, Nariana
and Bichun. Sambhar Lake is a Ramsar Site. In the evening drive 100 km in
